Arkansas Lighthouse School Community, We’ve made it to our first break of the 23-24 school year. Please take time to enjoy your family and friends this holiday. Remember, in an effort to give scholars a break and allow teachers to break and receive professional development and training, schools will be closed Tuesday-Friday of next week, with scholars retuning Monday, September 11th. We would like to suggest using the time away to schedule scholar appointments (doctor, dentist, etc) to decrease the amount of time scholars are away from school during our normal schedule. Finally, please don’t forget to assist us and use this time to P.L.A.Y. (Prioritize Literacy and Achievement Year-round). This is a great time to connect with your scholar and read or have them read to you each day and/or night. Again, we wish you a safe and enjoyable holiday and break and look forward to seeing you Monday, September 11th by 9am. Your Arkansas Lighthouse Family!

Today is National Egg Day! Scholars at our Flightline campus led the "Chicken or the Egg" project this past school year. All eight chickens received names during this process, and the scholars bonded with them on many different levels. Science Teacher Mrs. Herrin said, "It was quite evident there was a healthy impact socially and emotionally." Scholars showed compassion and critical thinking that occurred as they learned how to be responsible for their flock. It was a natural progression through exploration and experience that the middle school-aged scholars became curious, knowledgeable, and problem solvers. A small group of scholars calculated one 40 lb bag of feed lasts approximately 18 days and costs approximately $27. They learned how to budget and create small business plans through the project. #NationalEggDay #Agriculture #ArkansasLighthouse

We are honored to host our 2nd Annual Engaging Conversations. As we honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis, we will focus on the importance of public service through advocacy. Meet Engaging Conversation Panelist Tamara L. Bates. Ms. Bates is a captivating community voice who speaks out on social responsibility and equity across the United States' southern region. She is an organizer at heart who is not shy when addressing social justice issues and flawed policies that impact everyday people. Bates is a proud graduate of Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. An organizer with a love for community development, Bates has worked in politics on the local, state, and federal levels. In 2016, she contributed to the outreach efforts to support the Democratic Party of Florida's data-driven and metrics-based program to mobilize voters. Also, she served as Co-Director for Woke Vote during the historic Senate runoff victory election in Georgia. After a successful election in Georgia, Bates moved home to work for the Tennessee Democratic Party, as Director of Community Engagement. Bates is currently a graduate student at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is a proud member of one of the nation's leading women's organizations, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Bates is known for being in the intersection of social justice and bold in her choice of fashion. #PublicService #EngagingConversations #Advocacy
